Teacher
The only way to minimize the
possibility of “buyer’s remorse”, is to know the process of purchasing a
home. Your agent should teach you the process as you go, so you
have the knowledge to make the decisions necessary when you are given your
options.
Know
whom you're dealing with
It
is very important to fully understand whom a real estate agent is working for, before
you look at any homes. Establishing a Buyer’s Agency relationship is the best
way to insure your agent is working with your
best interests in mind. You should discuss agency relationships with your agent
long before you begin to look at homes.
Integrity
Good agents take
responsibility for overseeing your real estate transaction so that it proceeds
smoothly. But they know the limits of their professional responsibilities. A top
agent should never slip into the role of decision-maker. Real estate agents
cannot give legal or tax advice. Good agents will always know when to refer you
to another licensed professional to get the advice you need. They also will
point out material facts about a property, items that could affect your decision
to buy, or the price you'd be willing to pay.
Personality
Personality
also enters into the picture. You and your agent need to have good rapport in
order to work well together; it can be a long process.
